weird names
September 21st, 2005 (10:57 am)
Many people consistently spell Éiden's name wrong. I realize this is an unusual spelling and bear it with fortitude, as I bear with misspellings of my own name. And I've nearly given up on the accent mark (properly called a fada in Irish).
Two of the chronic offenders, though, are most baffling: my friend Oriane, who you think would pay attention to these things especially with a name like that; and my mother, who is not only his grandmother for god's sake but went and named her daughters Haddayr, Alaunde, Noedahn, and Djuna.

Now there's a good, strong name. I congratulate you and your partner. My hubbie whom I love and treasure rejected the following names simply for spelling because he thought they were too weird:
Siosamh (all right, maybe a point there)
Fionn (please -- not so hard)
Cian (huh?)
And a bunch of others I'm still too pouty to remember. Good on you!
PS Noedahn is considering changing her name legally to Noe, so these do sometimes backfire on you.
